The Real Inspiration Behind Woodsy Craft Co.? My Grandma Kate.
If you've ever opened a Woodsy kit, gathered around a table with family, or ended up with paint on your fingers (and somehow on your shirt, too), then you already have something in common with my Grandma Kate.
Long before Woodsy Craft Co. existed, Grandma Kate was teaching me what creativity was really all about.
And spoiler alert—it wasn't about making the perfect craft.
It was about making memories.
The Queen of Creative Projects
Growing up, a visit to Grandma Kate's house almost always came with a project.
We dyed Easter eggs.
We painted in her gazebo.
We built gingerbread houses.
We decorated cookies.
We made holiday crafts.
And somehow, she always had another idea waiting in the wings.
The thing I loved most was that she wasn't worried about perfection. She embraced the mess, the laughter, and the unexpected results that came with creating something by hand.
Looking back, I realize she wasn't just teaching us how to make things.
She was teaching us how to spend time together.
Every Gathering Needed a Craft
Grandma Kate had a gift for bringing people together.
Friends stopped by.
Family gathered often.
There was always room for one more chair at the table.
And somehow, a simple craft project had a way of turning into hours of conversation, laughter, storytelling, and connection.
The project was never really the point.
It was simply the reason everyone gathered.
That idea stuck with me.
In fact, it became the foundation for what Woodsy Craft Co. would eventually become.
More Than DIY Craft Kits
When we launched Woodsy, we weren't just creating DIY garland kits.
We were creating excuses to gather.
A reason for grandparents and grandkids to spend an afternoon together.
A girls' night activity.
A family craft night.
A screen-free afternoon that turns into a memory.
Because the truth is, most of us don't need another thing on our to-do list.
We need more moments together.
Why We Believe in Screen-Free Creativity
Life moves fast.
Between work, school, sports, and screens, it can feel impossible to slow down.
That's one reason we're so passionate about creating DIY craft kits that bring people around the same table.
There's something magical that happens when everyone is focused on creating.
The conversations come easier.
The laughter comes quicker.
And before you know it, an hour has passed and you've made something together.
Not just a garland.
A memory.
The Best Crafts Aren't Perfect
One lesson Grandma Kate mastered?
Perfection is overrated.
Some of my favorite memories involve paint where it shouldn't be, crooked decorations, and projects that looked nothing like the original plan.
And honestly?
Those were often the most fun.
At Woodsy, we believe creativity should be approachable, joyful, and just a little messy.
Because the goal isn't perfection.
The goal is connection.
Grandma Kate's Legacy Lives On
Today, every new Woodsy collection reminds me a little bit of Grandma Kate.
When we launch a fall kit, I think of gathering around the table.
When we create a holiday collection, I think about those gingerbread houses.
When families send us photos of grandparents crafting with grandkids, I can't help but smile.
Because that's exactly what Woodsy was always meant to be.
A reason to gather.
A reason to create.
A reason to make memories together.
Your Turn
So here's my challenge for you:
Invite someone over.
Pull out a craft.
Make a little mess.
Put the phones away.
Spend an hour creating something together.
Because years from now, you probably won't remember every craft you made.
But you'll remember who was sitting across the table from you.
And if one of our Woodsy kits helps create that moment, then we've done exactly what we set out to do.
Happy crafting,
Lindsey
